Without religion, man is subjected to the deed of the flesh. Those acts result in breaches of peace, because the act of the flesh creates enmity towards their surroundings and peers. Those acts include strife, outbursts of anger, adultery, envy, drunkenness, murder, and other wrongful acts.

Religions shape people into spiritual beings, whose mind is so tranquil that they can refrain from all evil deeds. Religions are in charge of transforming people's bad behavioral conducts into good ones which characterize of spiritual people. More precisely, religions teach people to nurture good behavioral patterns like humility, joy, kindness, meekness and temperance. If people are meek and good-tempered, they are kind to their surroundings. Therefore, it can be said that religions promote peace.

Religions value mutual help

Religions shape believers to value mutual help. One of the values cultivated by religions is solidarity. It is common that members of a religion give hands to each other carry out the construction of the necessary infrastructure in order to reduce the expenses of their religious community.

Apart from that, members are encouraged to give donations to finish the construction work. For example, members donate financial support or equipment for the construction work. Another aspect of solidarity is when they host their fellow religious members from another country during spiritual retreats overseas. The host family provides housing and also the basic necessities of their guest fellows. This proves that religions work for peace.

Religions teach people to good deeds

Another aspect of the role of religions in building peace is that they enable the members to do acts of kindness to the needy people, like: 

  • Giving alms to the poor
  • Bringing food aid and emotional support for the needy
  • Praying for prisoners and the sick

Religions teach people to have compassion for the orphans and prisoners. "For all of us who are alive, life is the real issue", said Prem Rawat. That is to say due to the hardship of life, it is necessary to do some kindness acts to bring a relief to the sufferings of the derived people. Those humanitarian acts develop peace in the world through religions.
